The Woman Who Loved To Fly #Chandrayaan2

17th March, 1962,
The Globe embraced a girl,
Who would have actually known,
She would give space, a swirl.
During her childhood,
Her interest in science took a flight.
Drawing pictures of aeroplanes,
Gave her much of a delight.
Pursuing her field of interest,
She did a Bachelor in Aeronautical Engineering.
And then was successful,
In double masters and Ph.D. clearing.
Joining NASA in 1988,
She did some research work.
The first space mission call in 1997,
Gave her career a spark.
A part of the six astronaut crew,
Space Shuttle Columbia was the flight name.
Completing 372 hours in space,
She rose to great fame.
The year 2003 gave her a second mission,
As a part of the crew of STS – 107.
Unfortunately the STS – 107 had an ill fate,
Before they could repair, it was already late.
Piece of foam insulation broke off from the external tank,
And struck the left wing of the orbiter.
Re-entering the atmosphere of the earth the hot gases penetrated,
And destroyed the internal wing structure.
The worst spaceship and the death of the crew,
Lead to the end of an almost successful mission.
Kalpana Chawla was one of them,
The American Astronaut of Indian Origin.
